Tours
Tours are available to school, scouts and other groups. They can be scheduled for weekdays or Saturdays. Saturday tours normally have the opportunity to safely walk the entire property, down into the pit and throughout the plant. Starting with a short video showing the process of limestone quarrying, the tour takes about two hours. Topics covered can include the mining process, geology, rock and mineral collecting, and/or careers in quarrying.
The walking tour is not suitable for children who must be carried or wheeled in a stroller. Tours during production require the group to provide a bus or van for transportation around the quarry. Handicap access is available. Hard hats and safety glasses are provided as needed. There is no charge for any tour. Email Karen Crouse for scheduling a tour.
Educators' note: The script to the video shown on tours is available as a PDF download. VHS or DVD copies are also available to loan.
Educational Materials
We have produced several educational pamphlets on quarry and mining-related topics. They are available here in PDF format.
