While the need for agricultural lime gave birth to our business more than a century ago, its production today at Rohrer’s Quarry is in no way old-fashioned. Today’s modern Ag Lime Plant is fully automated. It takes 2B material from a covered surge pile to a vertical shaft impactor crusher. Material recycles through the crusher and over four sets of multi-vibe 5x7 five deck screens. Currently, we produce seven products but the plant is capable of producing any product with a finished size from 1 1/2” down to a material fine enough to be used on fields without the need to burn it in a kiln. The lime produced is gray, not white in color, and provides the desirable neutralizing effect on acids in the soil for a longer period of time than burned lime.

Our fully automated facility produces agricultural lime quantities sufficient to serve neighboring farms and distant markets. Silos with capacity to store 2,400 tons make dry lime and damp lime readily available to customers. Loading is provided for both pneumatic tank trucks and dump trailers. Size and chemical analysis are guaranteed through registration with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Technicians in our on-site laboratory constantly test gradation and calcium content to assure materials meet or exceed quality guarantees.
Agricultural Chip Material
The agricultural chip material we produce is used primarily as filler in processed fertilizer products. This material can be made dry or with an additive for dust control. A 14,000 square-foot covered storage area attached to the plant is capable of holding 10,000 tons of material in reserve to accommodate seasonal peak demands.
Special Sorbent Material
We also provide a special sorbent material that is used to benefit the environment. This precise limestone product is needed in coal burning electric co-generation facilities for pollution control. Co-gen plants burn coal waste that has been polluting the coal mining areas with its runoff for years. The limestone captures sulfur from this previously unusable coal as it is burned and allows what was once a menace to the environment to provide clean, efficient electricity.
